How to Transfer My Domain Away from GoDaddy

Transferring your domain away from GoDaddy and into another registrar is easy, and can be done at any time. Follow the transfer checklist below and ensure your domain is automatically prepped for a transfer away.

If you prefer to manually transfer away your domain name you need to:

• Unlock your domain
• Turn off Domain Privacy
• Fully downgrade Domain Protection to none

Note: It is not possible to transfer within 60 days of new registration, transfer, or contact info change if the current registrant chose to apply a 60-day lock when they approved the changes.

Steps to Transfer Your Domain Away from GoDaddy

1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.
2. Select the domain name you want to transfer.
3. Select Transfer to Another Registrar under the Transfer tab.
   • If your domain is not eligible to transfer, you will see a message with details.
4. Review the transfer checklist to get additional information.
   • If you are transferring a .uk domain, enter the IPS tag for your new registrar, and then select Complete Transfer.
5. Select the Continue with transfer option.
   • If your domain has Domain Protection, you will need to verify your identity to continue. Additionally, if you have had two-step verification (2SV) turned on for at least 24 hours, enter the code you received via SMS, or enter the code from your authenticator app. If not, then you can enter the one-time password that was sent to your registrant email address.
6. Select the Click here to see Authorization Code option, then select Copy to Clipboard to make a copy of your authorization code. You will be emailed your authorization code to the email address linked to your domain name.
   • Note: This is an optional step.
   • You may also receive auth codes for multiple domains by exporting a list of your domains.
7. Select the My Domains option and go back to your list of domains.

Make sure to unlock your domain before continuing the move to your new registrar. Domain transfers can take up to 5-7 days to complete, but you can help the process along by approving the transfer yourself. You can also check the status of the transfer once it’s started.
