Here’s what to do before you begin
To ensure a smooth domain transfer to GoDaddy, you need to:
- Make sure your domain is unlocked at your current registrar. Doing this makes it easy to move your domain from your current registrar over to GoDaddy.
- Get the authorization code for your domains from your current registrar. An authorization code is also referred to as an auth code, EPP code, transfer code, and transfer key.
- Verify the contact information on your domain name. It’s possible the administrator’s contact info will be used during the transfer process as a way to stay in touch and provide updates.
Purchase the transfer and move your domain
Once everything is set in place, you’re ready to purchase the transfer and get your domain moved to your GoDaddy account.
From there, simply follow these steps:
- Sign into your GoDaddy account.
- Go to the GoDaddy transfers page and search your domain name.
- Ensure your domain is unlocked (you’ll know it’s unlocked when you see a green status bar).
- Enter the authorization code for your domain
- Select Continue after you’ve unlocked and authorization code sections show green status bars.
- Add domain protection by selecting the add protection button, and then complete the checkout process to officially start the domain transfer.
Most domain transfers usually take 5-7 days to complete. If your domain cannot be transferred, an email will be sent to you. You can also check the status of your transfer at any time through your GoDaddy account.
